Obstacle Quest

Grades 8 – 12 (Age 13 - 18)

Welcome aboard, Creya’tors and Curious MeerKats! The Summer of Discovery Camps are your passport to set sail on a voyage of imagination, creativity, and hands-on learning, all at the fascinating and innovative environs of T-Works!

Obstacle Quest is a camp for inquisitive and adventurous teens from Grades 8 – 12 (Ages 14 – 18) gearing up to become future engineers and robot enthusiasts. Campers work with coding, mechanics, motors and sensors, mastering infrared and ultrasonic technologies to give creations the power to see and navigate the world around them. From programming precision to sensor synthesis and crafting autonomous vehicles with brains of their own, campers will unlock the secrets of robotics that respond, react, and realize the future of technology.

Camp Activities

Explorer Bot and Introduction to Coding

Campers embark on a robotics adventure by assembling a Rover using the FT Robotics suite, getting introduced to the fundamental components of a robotic vehicle and programming with the “Robo Pro Coding” app as they learn how to give the rover the commands to navigate through various terrains.

Campers explore the capabilities of Ultrasonic Distance Sensors and their use in robotics such as enabling robots to “see” their environment. Campers harness this technology to build an autonomous cleaning vehicle that can detect and navigate around obstacles independently and avoid collisions found in the real-world.

Path Finder

Transitioning from mechanical construction to sensor integration with a focus on infrared (IR) technology. Campers get to grips with how IR sensors work, including their application in real-world robotics for tasks such as proximity detection and navigation. By the end of the day, the robot will have a new layer of sensory perception, enabling it to understand and interact with the world in a way it couldn’t before.
